Founded in 1988, Sichuan Provincial Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital is a non-profit public institution directly under the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission and an affiliated women’s and children’s hospital of Chengdu Medical College. As a Grade A tertiary maternal and child health institute integrating medical treatment, maternal and child healthcare, public health services, teaching and scientific research, it hosts multiple provincial-level specialized centers and research institutes, including the Sichuan Institute of Maternal, Child Health and Family Planning, Sichuan Children’s Medical Center, Sichuan Prenatal Diagnosis Center, Sichuan Newborn Disease Screening Center, Sichuan Maternal and Infant Safety Guidance Center, Sichuan Birth Defect Prevention and Control Management Center, as well as the Sichuan Cervical and Breast Cancer Screening Management Center.

The hospital has 1,305 staff members at present, among whom 228 hold associate senior professional titles or above, and 345 possess postgraduate degrees. Its talent pool includes 3 experts receiving special government allowances from the State Council, 1 provincial academic and technical leader, 5 reserve candidates for provincial academic and technical leaders, and 2 outstanding experts with distinguished contributions to Sichuan Province. One expert is selected for the innovative leading talent track of the Tianfu Emei Talent Program, one for the Tianfu Famous Doctor program under the Tianfu Qingcheng Talent Program, and 3 specially appointed experts under the Tianfu Scholar Program. In addition, the hospital boasts 2 leading talents, 11 academic and technical leaders and 3 distinguished clinical instructors recognized by the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission. All these professionals form a well-trained, highly skilled and proactive core workforce specialized in maternal and child medical care.

With the support of the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee, Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, Sichuan Provincial Health Commission and other relevant departments, the Tianfu Campus of Sichuan Provincial Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital (Sichuan Children’s Medical Center) is being constructed in Chengdu Tianfu International Bio-town, covering a planned land area of about 104 mu. Phase I of the campus was put into trial operation in December 2022. The total construction area of the hospital’s existing functional buildings reaches 133,000 square meters, with 750 inpatient beds available. Phase II of the Tianfu Campus, with a construction area of 80,000 square meters, is about to start construction and is expected to be put into service in 2025. Upon full completion, the hospital’s planned authorized bed capacity will rise to 1,360.
